10-02-2010 : MCARTHUR WELCOMES OVERDUE GRANT RATE INCREASE
Commenting on reports that the Scottish Government is now making the necessary statutory changes to the Rural Priorities Scheme, which allows those erecting Slurry Stores an increased grant rate from 40% to 50%, Orkney MSP and Scottish Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs Spokesman, Liam McArthur, said:
"This move is welcome but long overdue.
"In its report last year on the crisis facing Scotland's pig industry, Parliament's Rural Affairs Committee spelt out the need for this level of support to help with costs of essential investment in slurry stores.
"That report, backed by MSPs from all parties, was extremely critical of the Cabinet Secretary and it is surprising that Mr Lochhead has taken so long to respond to the constructive suggestions made by the Committee."
