06-02-2012 : Extra Ferry Fare Savings for Commercial Vehicles
Commenting on the announcement by the Transport Minister about 'extra ferry fare savings' on Western Isles routes, Orkney MSP Liam McArthur said:
"While the Transport Minister seems 'delighted' with his proposals, they are unlikely to quell the anger that has been growing in the Western Isles in recent weeks over changes he has introduced to the RET scheme.
"Meanwhile, his promise that small commercial vehicle owners in the Western Isles will now enjoy the same benefits as their counterparts in the Northern Isles will astonish my constituents, who remain incensed at the SNP government's politically-motivated decision to exclude Orkney from the RET scheme entirely.
"It appears the Minister is willing to bend over backwards in trying to address the concerns of ferry users in the Western Isles, but proves altogether less supple when it comes to accommodating Orkney routes in his RET scheme".
